Overview

Managing controls involves the process of creating and updating controls within the system. This guide walks you through how to create a new control using the built-in control creation wizard.

Creating a Control

To begin creating a new control, start at the Governance master data area and click on controls:

  1. Locate the “Create Control” Button
Navigate to the upper right corner of the screen. Click the Create Control button to launch the control creation wizard.
  2. Step 1: Basic Information

    • Control Name – Provide a descriptive name.
    • Control Description – A short explanation of the control.
    • Control Purpose – Describe what the control is about.
    • Control Activity – Define the procedure or technical action the control performs.
For procedural controls, specify the steps required. This information will be used during testing of the control.
  3. Step 2: Control Details
    Provide more specific attributes:
    • Source of Control
      • You can select from a registered framework or update this information later.
    • Type of Control
      • Choose between Procedural or Technical.
    • Importance – Rate the control's importance.
    • Category – Link the control to governance categories such as: Safety, Bias, Fairness
    • Frequency of Updates
      • Technical controls typically require more frequent updates.
      • Procedural controls may be updated less frequently (e.g., quarterly).
  4. Step 3: Lifecycle and Scope
    • Relevant Lifecycle Phase – Define when the control applies in the AI system's lifecycle. This helps determine activation timing.
    • Scope – Specify whether the control applies to a System, Model, or Use Case.
    • Testing Responsibility
      • Assign a responsible party:
      • AI Lead – Business-focused profile.
      • Data Scientist – Technical profile.
  5. Step 4: EUI (If Applicable)
Select elements related to the EUI (End-User Interface), if relevant.
This section is optional and can be left empty.
  6. Final Step: Review and Save
    Review the Control Overview.
Choose one of the following options:
    • Save & Create – Finalize and create the control.
    • Save as Draft – If unsure, save it as a draft for later editing.
